I'm voting for the evil of two lessers

November 16, 2000

Some things, like our current election, have been commented on enough by
many peop
le much more Knowledgeable, articulate and objective than myself.
But this lunacy has not gone unnoticed.
And
I am tired to the bone of arguing with so many people about our beliefs.

It seems
to me like most primates I talk to are embarrassingly unaware, yet
fiercely opinionat
ed.
I hav
e watched this country
During my
first election, before our second millennium,
Behave like ignorant redne
cks in a sportsbar, brawling over a football game.
It i
s shameful.

I am tired of cell-phone-w
earing, SUV-driving, fast-food-chain sustaining
fools, griping at me about politics.

A vote for Gore is a vote for my cell phone

Fo
r the next month, if you are not the sort of person who sees how
spiritual
ly homogenized, destructive and wasteful we've become...
Ju
st Don't Talk To Me.

I'm tired of t
he people who think everything's okay;
Who
think there is no hope,
Who think the media is accurate,
Who think they are powerles
s,
Who think the environment is indispensa
ble,
W
ho think whites are right,
Who think
whites are wrong,
Who try and crop reality into something you can check off in a box on a form
somewhere.

I am sick of the pe
ople who open up their minds to TV, satiate their
int
ellects on the garbage within, vote based on generalized concepts and
hears
ay, and then complain when they're inevitably shafted again by the
brainwashers they
opened themselves to.

But what about the supreme court?

I've been listening
to ruddy-faced twerps, shaking their jowls and howling
about "A vote for this is a
vote for that" ... And I wonder what they've
ever done to try and better the world?

Well, don't shake those bloated jowls and fingers at me, because
I am working on it.
I am voting out of hope, instead of fear.
I believe that change is possible and I am giving myself to the effort.
I will conti
nue to use the resources I have to support the things
I believe in
every day of my life.
I am certain about almost nothing, but
one of the things that I feel very
deeply
is that we need to change what we are doing as human beings.

We have the technology to obliterate our planet,
Yet every year,
we increase our already corpulent military budget
By the billio
ns,
While our social
programs lose funding, lose the
Resources
they are starving for.
Every year in Ameri
ca, we close down more schools and
Open mor
e privatized prisons.
We imprison people o
f color at an alarmingly high rate,
And ex
ecute them for crimes whites go unpunished for by comparison.
Our privatized prisons
work people of color like slaves.
Inste
ad of improving impoverished communities with social programs,
Of
fering opportunities and choices for change, we are increasing punishments
and sentences.

Every year we exacerbate the problems and the tensions run higher.

What a spoiler!

People hate so much.
The discrimin
ation is disgusting.
It seems that if peop
le can control the influence they have on other people,
they should attempt to co
ntribute positivity.
Yesterday, a woman passen
gering in an SUV behind us punched our window
when we slowe
d to find parking.
She w
as screaming obscenities.
I don't understa
nd why people go so far out of their way to hurt others.
We fuck each other over enough ac
cidentally.

I need to believe that there is a strong faction of people in this world
Who are not so selfish that they would time and time again screw over
another
person
To get marginally ahead.
I need to believ
e there is a following of people who work to improve things
Without asking how they
benefit or what prize they get.

I have
met some of these seemingly rare and precious people.
A lot of them call themselves Gre
ens.
I am proud to be on the bandwagon for
change.
I can
have no certainty that it will get me anywhere,
But it makes life more
worth living for me to be a dreamer
and n
ot a pragmatist.
I believe that the greates
t movements in history have
Depended in pa
rt on this.

I am steadily working to get what I want.
Are you?
